Development of hydraulic expansion technology for stainless steel elbow

Stainless steel elbows are thin-walled parts, which are difficult to process for thin-walled parts. The development of hydraulic expansion technology provides a new way for the forming of large thin-walled parts. The moldless hydraulic expansion technology is a new type of hydraulic forming technology with remarkable features such as low cost, short processing cycle and good forming. The basic process is: firstly welded by a flat plate or a single-curved shell plate that is rolled into a closed multi-faceted shell.

 Then, it is pressurized in a closed multi-faceted casing, and under the action of internal pressure, the casing is plastically deformed and gradually becomes ideal. The basic process of large stainless steel elbows is: cutting → rolling → welding into a closed ring shell → internal pressure forming of the ring shell → segmentation. The usual processing technique is to press a plurality of shells with a mold and then complete the welding. Many processes require different fixtures or molds, high manufacturing costs and long cycle times, and large thin-walled parts are extremely poor in processability. The development of hydraulic expansion technology provides a new way for the forming of large thin-walled parts.
